With suitcases, children or an evening landing, you may prefer a car or van booked in advance, with pickup and hotel drop-off agreed before you fly. AOT lists taxis, limousine services and car rental among the airport's transport options. If you choose at the airport, ask the transport counter whether it serves your exact address in Khao Lak or Bang Niang before you accept a price.

Hiring a car gives you another option for an independent trip. Think about whether you'll feel rested enough to drive after the flight, and check the rental company's driving-document and insurance requirements before reserving.

Where do the airport buses go?

AOT lists Airport Bus route 8411 as a service to Phuket Town. Phuket Smart Bus publishes an airport route through Patong, Karon and Kata to Rawai. Both are routes within Phuket, so neither is a direct transfer to a Khao Lak hotel. If you want to combine public transport services, check each onward connection, operating day, luggage arrangement and final stop with its operator. Work out the cost and practicalities of the last ride to your hotel too, particularly after dark.

Getting through arrivals and finding your driver

For an international arrival, AOT's procedure takes you through passport control, baggage collection and customs before onward transport. Your driver meeting therefore needs some time after landing. Agree on a buffer and ask the provider whether the flight is tracked, when the included waiting time begins and what happens if the flight is delayed or a bag is missing.

Check your actual arrival terminal with the airline, taking any connecting flight into account. Then get a specific meeting point from the provider: terminal, floor, exit or landmark, and how to recognise the driver. Save it offline so you can find it without needing to get connected first.

Help the driver find your hotel entrance

Send your driver the property's full name, address and map link. Ask the hotel to check that the pin points to the vehicle entrance, and request a landmark or entrance photo if that would help. The neighbourhood name alone leaves the final drop-off unclear.

If you will arrive late

Before a late arrival, get a direct reply from the property explaining how you'll reach staff and receive your key at the expected time. Reception cannot be assumed to be staffed throughout the night. Having the instructions saved before departure gives you something clear to follow when you arrive.
