At a glance
- Choose a stretch of shore rather than trying to walk the whole beach
- Keep the beach outing separate from inland Lampi Waterfall access
- Learn why this coast matters to sea turtles without expecting a sighting
- Plan food, shade and collection around the place you actually stop
A beach walk with another story to notice
A beach day can begin with a different question: what else uses this shore when visitors have gone home? Thai Mueang's long Andaman coastline is part of Khao Lampi–Hat Thai Mueang National Park, and sea turtles are an important part of its conservation work. A walk here offers a reason to look beyond the view of the sea.
Phang Nga's provincial tourism listing describes about 13.6 kilometres of beach backed by casuarina trees. Treat that length as an introduction to the landscape, not a walking target. Pick a stretch that suits the day, leave time to sit, and enjoy seeing a coast beyond the beaches around your Khao Lak accommodation.

Choose where to arrive before arranging the ride
The beach name covers a long shore. Decide whether you want to visit the park's coastal headquarters area or make a beach stop elsewhere around Thai Mueang. Send your driver a specific pin and agree where the walk will begin and end. If visiting the park, check admission and which areas visitors can use with park staff.
Lampi Waterfall belongs to the same national park but lies in its inland forest section. It is a separate stop with a separate entrance, rather than something you reach by continuing along the sand. If both appeal, include both pins when discussing your route and price; the park name alone will not describe your day.
Let conservation shape your visit
This is a living habitat, not a scheduled wildlife display. DNP reported leatherback nesting at the park's Pang ranger-unit shore in May 2026, including staff moving eggs threatened by high water. That account explains the care the coast receives; it does not tell you that a turtle, nest or release will be visible during your visit.
Leave any barriers and protected sand undisturbed. If you notice a turtle or possible nest, give it space and tell staff rather than approaching to investigate. For a conservation activity, ask the park what visitors may currently join and follow the staff's instructions. Plan to enjoy an ordinary beach walk even if no activity is offered.
Make the shore comfortable for everyone
Bring drinking water, sun protection and something to sit on if a longer pause is part of the plan. The tree-lined description does not establish shade at your chosen access point or at every time of day. For anyone who finds soft sand difficult, establish the distance and ground between the vehicle and the place you intend to sit.
Decide about entering the sea only after checking conditions and local advice. Respect warning signs and red flags; a beach outing need not include swimming. Keep children close near the water and choose a place to sit well away from waves reaching up the sand. Take litter home so the beach remains usable by people and wildlife.

Give the beach its own part of the day
Thai Mueang can be the main reason to head south from Khao Lak, or the coastal part of a day that also includes Lampi. Let the beach and a meal fill the outing if your group prefers sitting and walking to another entrance and another journey. A longer itinerary is only useful when everyone wants it.
The provincial listing mentions food and accommodation around the beach, but choose a particular food stop rather than relying on a shop beside the sand. Agree the return collection and waiting arrangements before leaving the car. If you hope to stay for late light, check the relevant park's leaving time and arrange the return accordingly.
